What music should you expect from your wedding DJ?
If you find yourself on a Forever Grooves dance floor, it’s a safe bet you’ll hear plenty of funk, soul, and golden-era pop and rock setting the tone early on. Once the dance floor kicks off, there will likely be some oldies classics, plenty of disco, and especially once the night progresses, house anthems and 90’s/2000’s classics. Don’t be surprised if you hear some rock, hip-hop and unexpected curveballs in the set either!
That’s a typical set. No track list is ever the same and Remy works with couples to tailor music curation for each and every wedding. Music preparation is always intentional and highly personalised. What makes a vinyl wedding DJ different from a standard wedding DJ?
Almost all wedding DJ’s play music from a laptop or USB. A vinyl wedding DJ mixes live from record, built around genuine crate-digging rather than a generic playlist — bringing a warmer sound and a more distinct, curated feel to your day.
Do you travel for weddings in Geelong, the Yarra Valley, and the Mornington Peninsula?
Yes, absolutely. Weddings in Geelong, the Yarra Valley, and the Mornington Peninsula are all regularly covered, alongside Melbourne and greater Victoria more broadly. These regions are some of the most popular wedding destinations in the state, so travelling for a ceremony or reception outside the city is a normal part of the business, not an exception.
Can we customise the playlist and provide a strict "do-not-play" list for our reception?
Of course. You can share favourite songs, genres, and a strict do-not-play list, and Remy builds all of it into your reception set. Nothing on your do-not-play list will feature, full stop — it’s treated with the same care as the songs you actually want played.
How do you handle on-the-night song requests from wedding guests?
Handling guest requests well is as much about judgement as it is about music. Remy weighs each request against the couple’s taste whether that song will work in whe moment. If a song genuinely fits, it either gets played straight away or held for a better moment later on. If it’s genuinely a bad choice which the couple wouldn’t want it played, it’s respectfully declined. “I don’t have that one on my USB, sorry” usually works. Often, that’s the truth.
Do you provide DJ services and audio equipment for the wedding ceremony as well as the reception?
Yes. The Ceremony Package covers music for your key moments plus a premium portable P.A speaker. If your celebrant doesn’t have their own microphone, or for guaranteed coverage and audio quality, a complete audio package is also available, adding a microphone for the celebrant and vows.
Will you act as the MC for our wedding, or do you work alongside our chosen MC?
Remy’s stays focused on the music, making sure it’s absolutely right for your day. He believes duties are best left to someone familiar to your guests – a friend or family member usually brings a warmth and connection to the room that’s hard to replicate otherwise. That said, coordination is still essential: Remy works closely with your chosen MC ahead of time to align on the run sheet, timing, and key cues throughout the night, so transitions between speeches, key moments, and music always feel smooth and well timed.
Do you provide wireless microphones and a PA system for our wedding speeches?
Yes. Two wireless microphones are included with every wedding reception, professionally tuned to avoid feedback and ensure clear sound. They run through the same PA already set up for your reception music, so there’s no separate hire or setup needed.
Can you edit, mix, or time our first dance song specifically to our routine?
Yes! First dance songs can be edited to cut or extend things like intros or specific sections of a song. The same editing tools can be used for other key moments like ceremony aisle and exit songs, where timing is crucial.
How do you transition the music smoothly from dinner and background ambiance to the main dancefloor?
Every wedding is different in terms of pacing, and the types of genres played, though the pattern stays consistent: the energy builds gradually through dinner, getting people eager to hit the dancefloor before it starts. From there, the opener is chosen based on the room’s mood and the couple’s first dance choice (if there is one. This could be anything from a classic James Brown track to a 2000s throwback.
How far in advance should we book our wedding DJ in Melbourne?
Most couples book their wedding DJ 6–12 months in advance, especially during Melbourne’s peak spring and autumn season. Often, a DJ is the last vendor a couple will book. If you already have a date and venue locked in, it’s highly recommended to get in contact and start the process sooner than later!
