All killer, no filler.

Drawing from our vast catalogue of music from the 50’s to today’s contemporary songs, we’re able to cherry pick some of our favourite tunes from the past 7 decades, always having the right track for the right moment. Through years of collecting and refining our vinyl and digital collection, we’ve build up a comprehensive stack of diverse music which allows us to play in a wide range of scenarios.

We pride ourselves on leaning our selections to the more tasteful side; veering away from the usual cliques and current top 40 stuff. Although we certainly aren’t commercial DJ’s, we recognise that having some well known anthems and singalongs are essential on a wedding dance floor. We may steer towards the less obvious and quirky tunes but make no mistake, we still love our guilty pleasures and make sure some bonafide hits get dropped throughout the night!

Although it’s certainly not an easy task to break down over 70 years of music into a handful of categories, we’ve put together a brief overview of the music we play. During a set, we typically play a broad range of music, but sometimes get a bit specific and leave out certain genres; it all depends on the brief we’re given and what we think will work when we read the room on the day/night. Scroll down and have a look for yourself, and please keep in mind that this is just a simplified run-down of our collection. We could get way more specific, but you’d be here all day!

  • 50's, 60's & Swingin'

With lush orchestrations, rich sounds and heartfelt lyrics, artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Burt Bacharach were responsible for making some of the most timeless music ever created. The vintage equipment and recording techniques used on these old records created a warm and nostalgic quality to them that hasn’t been recreated since. Its amazing seeing vintage classics bring an entire family onto the dance floor.

  • Disco

Without a doubt the genre most synonymous with Forever Grooves. We LOVE disco; in fact it would hardly be a Forever Grooves set if we didn’t sprinkle at least some 70’s dance floor magic in there. From the slower, smoother Disco that works well earlier on, to the classic dance floor fillers, you can safely bet that we’ll be playing our favourite disco tracks from artists like Donna Summer, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gloria Gaynor, Chic & Chaka Chan.

  • Funk & Soul

From the gospel-like voices of Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Bill Withers and Stevie Wonder, to the all out funk music from, Sly & The Family Stone, James Brown & Parliament-Funkadelic, we have our libraries full of our favourite funky and soulful gems. We find ourselves almost always playing at least a bit of funk and soul to warm the room up, and sometimes later on a few high tempo stompers from prolific labels like Motown records!

  • 80's Dance Classics

Using newly adopted electronic instruments, 80’s artists created a new and exiting dance floor sound. With drum machines replacing drum kits and synthesisers (as well as mullets) as far as the eye could see, 80’s artists made some of the most well known dance floor hits of all time. Forever Grooves has honed in on the subtle art of cherry picking the greatest and most timeless 80’s dance tracks, while shying away from the songs that didn’t age so well. We often play 80’s dance floor fillers from the likes of Hall & Oats, Madonna and Prince.

  • Hip Hop / R&B

We’re a sucker for the smooth soul and R&B from more contemporary artists like Erica Badu, Amy Whinehouse, Sade and Alicia Keys. We also love the mellow hip hop from rappers that are in a similar vein to Jurassic 5 & A Tribe Called Quest. Once things start getting a bit looser later in the night, we might also drop some R&B and Hip Hop anthems that everyone knows and loves - the kind of floor fillers you’d expect from Outkast, Nelly, TLC, Destiny’s Child, JT, & Missy Elliot.

  • 90's & 2000's Throwbacks

A truly fun and exiting time for music and definitely the most nostalgic period for the Forever Grooves DJ’s. In the 90’s, sample-based producers like Daft Punk, Moby & Fatboy Slim were becoming house-hold names and bringing electronic music to the forefront of pop culture. Later, indie/electronic crossover acts like MGMT, The Gorillaz, & PNAU were soundtracking the 2000’s and creating future classics. On the more glitzy side of things, we had pop queens like Kylie Minogue and The Spice Girls, and later Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, etc. We love it all, and we play it all.

  • Rock, Pop, Alt & Indie

This is going to be a hard one to condense into one paragraph! - We’ll start with the golden era of music that flourished with iconic bands like Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles & The Rolling Stones, as well as solo acts like Elton John, Neil Young, David Bowie & Van Morrison. As music took its twists and turns and time flew by, we were given unique alternative music from 80’s & 90’s bands like Talking Heads, The Cure, The Smiths & Joy Division. We also get around a bit of bit-pop from Oasis and Blur and don’t mind some of the more contemporary stuff from The Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, etc.

  • Homegrown Hits

Although our collection spans far and wide across the globe, we of course still enjoy a bunch of Aussie classics too. It’s always fun to inject a bit of nostalgia into the room with some tried and tested local picks. With classic love songs by poets and Australian household names, Paul Kelly and Nick Cave, to dance floor hits from bands local icons INXS, Mental As Anything & Dire Straits, we love to draw on some local gems. Occasionally you might also hear some ‘future classics’ from bands like Tame Impala, The DMA’s and The Presets.

  • Reggae & World Music

Utilising the beautiful and soothing reggae music from icons like Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, we know how to set the mood right with some Caribbean magic. We also love seductive swayers from Brazilian artists like Evinha and Sergio Mendes, as well as the samba and salsa magic from other parts of latin America. Forever Grooves also get around some African dance floor heaters from likes of Manu Dibango and Kiki Gyan. We think a bit of world music can really spice up a set, but realise it isn’t for everyone so don’t stress - we know when to use our foreign delights sparingly!
